I did say I’d write more about SHAME. Here it is. But first, here’s a link to a piece I wrote several years ago. Please read it, because I have something to add.

#231 Shame is Not Yours

To be free of shame, you send it back—not to whoever gave it to you, but to where it originated, “in the murky mists of long ago.”

Shame is a nasty, stinking thing. It obfuscates. It muddles. It restricts. It hobbles. It hurts. Releasing shame makes room for clarity, for self-love, for passion, joy, connection, belonging, creativity.

And here’s the BIG THING. When you send your shame back to where it originated, it passes by all who held it—the person who gave it to you, the one who gave it to that person, and so on, clear back to those murky mists. As it passes, it gathers up vestiges of itself that still dwell within that being’s energy. Most of whom are dead, of course. But no matter. It gathers up bits and pieces of itself that exist wherever they don’t belong.

Thus, your act of releasing shame to its origins is multiplied hundreds, thousands, even millions of times. What a gift you give when you send back shame you carry! What a good deed that is! What a benefit it is to all creation! What a great cleansing occurs on the planet!

Take a moment now to imagine a world without shame. You can play an important role in bringing that about. Every time you’re inundated by shame, name it and send it back to its origins. Then celebrate! Be glad, knowing that your one action of releasing shame is really a huge action! Experience gratitude and joy and fulfillment for the great Good Work you’re doing. NO MORE SHAME.
