It’s the energy we emanate that people respond to. Our words and actions are only of secondary importance. If the energy you emanate is different from your demeanor, different from the words you use, you’ll drive people crazy.

I’m thinking of another woman I worked with once, many years ago. She was indiscriminately and unfailingly effusive in welcoming people to our place of business.  But under her effusive welcome was often some other, truer, energy – sometimes disgust (oh god, not this person again) or sometimes shame-based comparing (oh no, this person is so beautiful and smart). Again and again, I watched people respond to the energy she was emanating, regardless of how glad she appeared to be to see them.

This week, pay attention to the energy you transmit. Does it match your demeanor? If not, see if you can bring your energy and your demeanor closer together.
